FAQs

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 45-minutes for individual and 60-90 minutes for couples. Due to no constraints with insurance, we can be flexible in determine a time that works for your needs.

How does therapy work?

At Citrine Counseling, we believe in personal power through personal connections. While we use evidenced based care, we value getting to know the individual and determining a plan for treatment together. We are here to support you on your journey. Therapy is for anyone at any stage of life. We are not the expert on you. As corny as it might sound, you are the expert.

Do you accept insurance?

The short answer: No, but you may be eligible for reimbursement through your insurance plan. This is determined by the insurance company. We provide you with a fancy receipt known as a super bill.

The long answer: Mental illness is a medical issue with complex origins. Medical insurance is beneficial for a lot of our care that we experience. When it comes to therapy, Medical insurance does not cover things like martial dissatisfaction, struggles adapting to parenting, some eating disorder treatment, and many other reasons that bring someone to therapy. This requires therapists to provide a diagnosis for a mental illness and brings some limits to privacy and flexibility in care. For more information or questions, please contact us.

How often are sessions?

Sessions typically start off weekly and progress based on your needs. If you’re looking for couples therapy, the breakdown for sessions looks a little different. If looking for family therapy for eating disorders, there might be two sessions in a week at times. Since therapy is personal, we believe in personalized care that fits your needs.

How do I know if you’re a “good fit?”

“Fit” can be hard to find. We recommend giving it a few sessions to see if you feel heard, respected, valued, and small bits of hope that progress can be made (and maybe already has). Our therapists take pride in providing quality care with a personal and professional approach to therapy.

What are your rates?

Session rates vary from $150-$250. Rates are determined upon what form of therapy you are seeking. Contact us to see what your rate would be without having to commit to anything!

We offer a sliding scale for those who qualify. The sliding scale is eligible regardless of if you are seeking individual therapy, family therapy, or couples therapy. Reach out to see if you qualify.

 FAQs

  • We're based in St. Louis, Missouri, and offer virtual therapy sessions. Machaela is licensed in both Missouri and Tennessee, so we're happy to provide care in both states. Having lived in Columbia, MO, Kansas City, MO, and Knoxville, TN, we’re pretty familiar with the area and the people!

  • We use a secure and encrypted platform for therapy sessions (think fancy FaceTime). Sessions on our end take place in a private room. You can use a phone with our app or your computer. On your end, we ask you find a space you feel comfortable and have privacy. This can be your car, a room in your house, or a private walk if you like to move! Your payment is also private—we never see your full card because you enter it. While there is no shame in seeking help, we take your privacy seriously.

  • That is perfectly acceptable and understandable. While we are trained, we are still a stranger, and some things you might not be ready for. Our approach is all about moving at your pace (with a little encouraging nudge from time to time) and the space is yours for what you need.

  • No! We provide therapy for individuals, families, and couples. If you are looking for medication, we are happy to help you find a psychiatrist or doctor. We have great relationships with people we can refer you to.
